Acupuncture: The Most Effective Treatment for Bellís Palsy

About Bell’s Palsy, According to TCM

Bell’s Palsy is one of the common peripheral nerve disorders. It is a great indication for acupuncture but before seeing an acupuncturist, you need to make sure it is a peripheral nerve disorder because serious central nerve disorders can have the same or similar symptoms. If misdiagnosed or if the diagnosis is put off, the consequences could be serious. Putting it off in the case of a central nervous system disorder can lead to long term or permanent paralysis effects.

Alternative Acupuncture Treatment for Bell's PalsyIn China, it’s common knowledge that acupuncture is the first choice for Bell’s Palsy sufferers. Tremendous research has been done in China over the decades from the 1950’s to indicate that acupuncture and Chinese herbs are better choices than other approaches. On one hand, acupuncture acts on the troubled nerve right away, and on the other hand, the herbal medicine can deal with the cause of the problem very effectively. According to modern understanding of this problem, the cause of Bell’s Palsy is not quite clear. The good news is least 85% of patients’ symptoms can disappear on their own with no lasting damage. Unfortunately, it has been reported that about 4% may have permanent effects.

It has also been reported that one patient with a 33 year history has been cured by acupuncture about 30 years ago in China. In Dr. Wang’s own personal history, he had seen his aunt (who is an acupuncturist) cure these kinds of patients in his childhood.

In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and acupuncture, the treatment for Bell’s Palsy can be traced back to about 2000 years ago with both acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Since the herbal formula for this problem contains some “poisonous” components like scorpion venom and centipedes, etc., people in the United States don’t use it if they can avoid it. On the other hand, in the realm of TCM and acupuncture, it is safe and effective.

Our Successes

Some of our biggest successes have been curing one patient with a 13 year history, and another with a six year history was cured. That’s not to say that those are the only patients we have helped with Bell’s Palsy — we have also cured many patients who had a short term bout (6 months – 1 year) with Bell’s Palsy. While we are focusing on long term patients in this article being cured, it has been scientifically researched and proven that acupuncture helps people every step of the way to make the paralysis clear up faster for anybody who has it for any amount of time, including short term. This goes for our office as well.

Bring awareness to friends & family with Bell’s Palsy

In the United States, it looks like awareness has just started. Most people haven’t yet realized that acupuncture is the best choice for this. Many patients go to their general practitioner first and they end up with an operation because they don’t know acupuncture can definitely help.
